The Alaknanda Ghaati Shilpi (AAGAAS) Federation is a community based voluntary non-profit making organization formed in 2002 to work towards the social and economic development of rural mountain communities in Uttarakhand and Central Himalayan Region.
Registered in 2004 under the Societies Registration Act, XXI, 1860, Aagaas is registered under 12(A) and 80 (G) of Income Tax.
AAGAAS works in partnership with UNDP/GEF/SGP/CEE, State Biodiversity Board, Uttarakhand Bamboo and Fiber Development Board, Rishi Chaitanya Ashram, Karmmarg Charitable Society, CEE Himalaya, District Disaster Management Department, Department of Biotechnology and HESCO Dehradun and Himmotthan Society to help generate employment opportunities.
AAGAAS Federation is affiliated to Earth Charter International, Earth Charter youth Group and SAYEN Asia.
Felicitated by the World Bank in 2005 with a Recognition Award felicitated by Animal Welfare Board of India in 2011 and Scored Second Position under National Sita Ram Rao Case Study completion. AAGAAS is known as the Center of Excellence for the Himalayan Bamboo (Ringaal- Arundinaria spp.- hill bamboo) and Himalayan Nettle ( Girardinia heterophylla, G.Diversifolia) in Chamoli District.
Aagaas is working for the promotion of Ecotourism based activities such as promotion and popularization of Lesser and unknown trekking routes in Chamoli Garhwal and Ce3ntral Himalayan region.
An active participant in the Reconstruction Plan, in the wake of the Himalayan Tsunami 2013, AAGAAS has been actively involved in rescue and relief work in all 3 Districts- Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag. Later on organization is working for the Rehabilitation which includes- Midterm Shelter Construction, Relief Material- Tents, Blankets, Medicines, Sweaters and Stationary for poor students, Livelihood plans, Enterprise Development and training programs.
Donations to AAGAAS Federation are tax exempt under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act and your funds are utilized for the social and economic development of the rural women and youth in Garhwal.
